The Federal International Maxibasketball Association (FIMBA) has granted the rights to organize the 15th World Maxibasketball Championships in 2019 to City of Espoo in Finland. The Basketball Club Tapiolan Honka is responsible of the tournament arrangements.
FIMBA made a decision to given the organizing rights of the championships to Espoo at their meeting held in Montecatini Terme in Italy during the ongoing World Maxibasketball Championships and the 2019 host was announced at a celebration held on Tuesday evening.
At the Montecatini Terme World Maxibasketball Championships, nearly 400 teams are playing in the world championships of the age groups between 30- to 75-year. There are almost 5000 players from over 40 countries and also five teams from Finland participating in the championships.
“Finland’s strong commitment on developing the maxibasketball community worldwide and the positive attitude of the City of Espoo to the organize the tournament made us to decide on the venue in Finland. I believe that Finland as a very safe and scenic country will get a maxibasketball community to come to Finland and to play in Espoo in 2019, “says Ruben Rodriguez Lamas, President of FIMBA,
“Tapiolan Honka’s experience and know-how about the organization of large junior tournaments and the reputation of the city of Espoo as their sustainable development and the excellent transportation structure and playing venues in Espoo played a significant role on getting the championships to Finland and Espoo”, says Manne Airaksinen, President of Tapiolan Honka.
